The Brittle Plastic Problem
Nylon trimmer line degrades over time, especially when stored in a hot, dry garage. As the nylon dries out, it becomes brittle and shatters instantly when it hits a rock or fence post. This leads to constant, frustrating re-spooling.
The Hydration Solution
Nylon is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the environment. To restore its flexibility and strength, you simply need to hydrate it.
How to Do It
Take your spool of trimmer line (or cut lengths) and drop it into a bucket of water with a wet sponge. Leave it submerged for 24 to 48 hours before you plan to trim. The nylon will absorb the water, becoming incredibly tough, pliable, and resistant to snapping.
Master landscapers keep a dedicated sealed bucket of water in their truck just to keep their spare spools soaking at all times!
